Congratulations to our own Tyrod Taylor, who was named ACC Player of the Year today. Taylor beat out NC State QB Russell Wilson, who received 19 votes to Taylor's 27. Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers and Boston College RB Montel Harris also received votes.
Taylor is the second Virginia Tech Hokies player to take home ACC POY honors. QB Bryan Randall also won the award in 2004, when the Hokies took home the ACC title in their inaugural year in the league. Taylor had a lot of people to thank in the official release from the school:
"First off, I have to thank the Lord for blessing me with the ability to play football," Taylor said. "I also have to thank my parents, my family, the coaches, my teammates and all of the Virginia Tech fans. It's an honor to be recognized as the ACC's Player of the Year and to see all of my hard work pay off.
"I'm more proud, though, of how this team responded from an 0-2 start, but now we have finish things off Saturday in Charlotte against a tough Florida State team."
Taylor completed over 60 percent of his passes during the regular season and led the ACC with an average of 8.8 yards per attempt and a 156.9 passer rating. He threw for 20 touchdowns in the regular season and his four interceptions were the fewest among qualifying quarterbacks in the conference.
