Scouting Report:
On Thursday night Kamansky and his Broncos are will enter Cameron Indoor to get a look at how the real Coach K and D-I National Champions play ball. The other Coach K is entering his 10th season as a head coach, racking up five 20-win seasons and winning Coach of the Year twice in that span. Making his name in coaching as a defensive specialist, expect Kamansky to try to slow down the Devils with the match-up zone his team employs.
Cal Poly lost guards and team leaders, Austin Swift and Dahir Nasser to graduation. Swift lead the team in points and assists and that will be tough for the Division II National Champions to overcome. Donnelle Booker their talented and athletic small forward, will look to sholder the load. Booker led the team in rebounding and blocked-shots last season, was second on the team in scoring and third in assists. The matchup between the senoir and Kyle Singler could be an interesting one.
In this game the Blue Devils will most likely look to take advantage in two areas. The Broncos are a small team with only one player taller then 6-7. Using this matchup as a good opportuinity to give the Plumlee brothers some action, look for Duke to take advantage of their size with points in the paint. The point guard position is another area of weakness for Cal Poly. Losing Swift and the insertion of Rosser who didnt play much last season could lead to a long day for the Broncos as they try to contain Nolan Smith and Kyrie Irving on the perimeter. The zone defense Cal Poly runs could cause some confusion on the Blue Devils part, but once they figure it out it could quickly turn into a huge advantage with all the three point threats on Duke’s squad.
