Is 2010 the year the BCS Blows Up?

Have you had a chance to look at the first BCS rankings released Sunday? If you haven't you can find them at ESPN.com's BCS Rankings. See anything interesting? I do, and what I'm seeing is the possibility of absolute chaos by years end.

2010 could make the 2003 season when SEC team Auburn went undefeated and was denied a spot in the National Title Game look like kids stuff.

We are 7 weeks into the season and 8 of the first 9 spots are filled with undefeated teams. Auburn and LSU play later in the year and Utah will play TCU later in the year as well. That leaves 6 potential undefeated teams from the current top 9. What are you going to do with that BCS?

Are you going deny a potential undefeated SEC, Pac 10, Big 12, or Big 10 Champion a shot at the national title for Boise St. or the Utah/TCU Winner?

Can you yet again keep a Boise St. team that started the year in the top 5 out of the national title game? Frankly I'm very excited about the possibility of total chaos for the BCS. That's the only way it will come to an end. I get that the regular season is like a playoff. It does make the regular season exciting, but all you need is a +1 system or 4 team playoff to make the system at least approach being fair. Then only a couple of  teams can complain about not getting their shot at the national title. Hey you can't please everyone.

My arguement for being against the 8 or 16 team playoff is that it wll diminish the regular season. I'm not sure I'd be pleased about a 2 loss team going on a 3 week run and winning the national title either. Let me ask this, do you watch college basketball before the middle of January?  Only the most hardcore college basketball fans do. Even those fans are looking at how their team's early season schedule will help them get into the NCAA Tournament.

I'm a bowl guy and want to keep most of those post-season games. I am not a fan of a system like the BCS though that just about arbitrarily chooses who is #1 or #2 in the country. I watch and I hope the BCS Blows up this season.
