NC State's offense opened the game with 11 consecutive pass plays and Russell Wilson finished the afternoon with 51 attempts, throwing for 300+ yards and three touchdowns for the fourth consecutive game. Wilson also finished the game as the team's leading rusher, as Dean Haynes and Mustafa Greene had just 10 carries between them. All of which was fine by me. It's not the kind of thing I expect from TOB and his staff, but I'll take it as often as I can get it.
Boston College's secondary did a solid job against the early onslaught, forcing Wilson to check down often. Dean Haynes doubled his season reception total on the first drive. That was pretty typical of the rest of the game; NC State's passing attack was much more dink-and-dunk than usual, with big pass plays limited.
A good plan, well-executed save for a couple of interceptions Russell threw in there just to remind everyone that while he is a god, he's not the god.
Special teams provided us with a two-score lead early on (here's a great shot of the punt block; who's the crazy man flying over the top?), and the defense ensured there would be no second half let down this time around. Not that I had the sense at any point during the game that Dave Shinskie could lead Boston College out of a multi-score hole.
So we're sitting at 5-1 with a horrific ECU defense on deck, followed by the next Game Of The Year. An absolute must-win affair, especially since FSU figures to be 4-0 in league play by that point.
