After a slow start, Virginia Tech seems to be back on track. The Hokies have won three in a row coming into this weekend, and they have a four game home stand coming up. Tech should go 4-0 in this stretch, but you never know which Hokies team will show up.
This weekend Central Michigan will make their first trip to Blacksburg in their first ever meeting with Virginia Tech. The Chippewas are 2-3 with victories over Hampton and Eastern Michigan and losses to Temple, Northwestern and Ball State.
That's not very impressive and this game should be blowout. Virginia Tech should score at will and it will give the coaching staff a chance to hopefully get a look at backup quarterback Logan Thomas in the second half; something I'm sure was in their pre-game plans against James Madison.
Ryan Williams likely won't play this week for precautionary reasons. There's really no reason to bring him back for this matchup. David Wilson and Darren Evans will again carry the load and the offensive line will continue to get repetitions against weaker defenses.
Tyrod Taylor will look to improve on his season and should have multiple opportunities to make big plays.
The defense will also look to continue their success. Jayron Hosley is coming off an impressive three interception performance against N.C. State last week and the rest of the secondary will look to build on that performance.
Central Michigan has the 19th ranked passing offense in the NCAA, but considering who they've played this year that's a pretty meaningless statistic. The Hokies defense has three weeks to really grow and mature as a unit before hosting Georgia Tech on Thursday night.
After Central Michigan this weekend, the Hokies play Wake Forest and Duke at home who both rank at the bottom of the ACC. You may look at the schedule and think there's not much here we can learn about the Hokies, but there's a lot of opportunity for growth in these next three weeks.
The offensive line and defense still have a lot of room for improvement and I'm sure the coaching staff will look to these next three games as the building blocks for the rest of the season.
The Hokies will have no trouble in this one and they should have a few opportunities to make some noise on special teams. Look for Beamer Ball to re-emerge this week as the Hokies roll over the Chippewas.
