Not many excuses for what Florida State put on display against Oklahoma. Scratch that, there are no excuses. I was thinking about writing an article entitled "50 Concerns From The FSU-Oklahoma game." And I could easily go over that.
But what I really want to talk about is how what Florida State fans thought- about the game, the team, everything- and how it all backfired in their faces.
Example 1 of this: ScalpEm.com's preview of this game. What he said (and what most people agreed with) was that the game was going to be a shootout, which would work in FSU's favor. I admit, I thought this too.
I could write an outline on how that prediction backfired. First off, the only way the game was going to be one was if the offense scored every single possession, because the defense wasn't getting a stop. They just weren't. Second off, the offense couldn't even score! I'm not calling out ScalpEm, because a lot of people thought the same way. But that prediction was completely wrong.
Also, Florida State is obviously not as developed as we thought they were. This isn't necessarily a bad thing- I'm not going to be Mr. Negative Seminole and go at Jimbo and say the team is terrible. But- the program isn't going to turn around right away. Which is what a lot of people thought, judging by the hype this game had.
On that note, let's give a standing ovation to whoever is behind marketing Florida State. I'm not being sarcastic here. Because the Florida State marketing team singlehandedly got FSU their #17 ranking and made this game as big as it was.
I didn't like the defense at all either. But what's new there? Mark Stoops got embarrassed by his brother. And I don't like the zone defense either- the Oklahoma receivers ran all over it. Would it have happened without the zone defense? Can't say, I'm not a defensive coordinator. But there has to be a better way to stop the aerial attack then what FSU was doing.
I don't have much more- other then, the first drive FSU had got me really excited, but from there... And the Christian Ponder for Heisman campaign is hanging by a thread.
But don't be too embarrassed, Seminoles fans- Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Miami all lost too. A terrible day for the ACC overall. And that's a huge understatement.
I'm sure there was a lot more problems FSU had that I forgot to touch on- let's hear them in the comment section below.
