As the week winds to a close, Jeff Bzdelik continues to hit the recruiting trail hard as recruiting visits pile up for Wake Forest. 6'9" PF/C Trey McDonald of Battle Creek, Michigan was spotted and confirmed to be on campus today with his father taking a visit with the Wake Forest coaching staff, including Coaches Corbean, Battle and Bzdelik. McDonald is a 3 star player on both Scout and Rivals and currently holds offers from several schools including Wake Forest, Iowa, Marquette, Arkansas, Depaul, and Dayton.
ESPN rates him as a 4 star on their scouts take. Here is what they had to say on McDonald's strengths and weaknesses:
McDonald is the type of player that the more you watch him the more you like him. He has great size, length and runs the floor on a consistent basis. He scores with his back to the basket mostly with a jump hook that he can shoot with either hand and he also displayed the ability to step out and knock down the 15 footer with time and space. McDonald is an excellent area rebounder as well. Anything that hits his hands he seems to pull in. He also is a good on ball shot blocker.
Weaknesses:
McDonald must continue to add strength and maintain the confidence he gained from attending the Nike Skills Academies where he seemed to get better at a steady rate. He must work on passing the ball under intense pressure out of the post and handle the ball more fluidly in addition to working to be a consistent back to the basket scorer and open mid range shot maker.Bottom Line:
Great looking prospect that has worked hard and improved rapidly so far this summer. He can score, rebound enough to demand the defenses attention and has great upside definitely one of the class of 2011 post players that is on the rise.
