It might be Labor Day, but the Wake Forest basketball staff didn't take the day off. According to sources on campus, a guard was on the Wake Forest campus today for a visit, and that guard may have been class of 2011 point guard Ryan Boatright. Boatright is a 6'2", 165 lbs, true point guard from Aurora East High School in Aurora, Illinois.
He is a 4* on both Scout and Rivals, and ESPN has Boatright ranked as the 6th best point guard in the class, and the 36th player overall. According to ESPN:
Strengths:
Boatright is super quick with the ball. He has the ball on a string. Boatright can get anywhere he wants on the floor with the ball. He challenges taller players at the rim and can finish over or around them. Boatright probes and penetrates the defense looking for openings to attack where he can find open teammates with his court vision. Boatright is athletic enough to finish above the rim or he will hit floaters and pull ups with range to the arc although streaky. He can break and apply ball pressure as well and run the offense. Boatright is terrific at making plays at end of clock situations for himself or teammates. He is a true point but loves and looks to score.Weaknesses:
Boatright needs to add strength and work to be a consistent shooter from behind the arc. At times he can think score a little too much which can take away from getting others involved. Boatright will also need to not gamble on defense so much and pay attention to not playing so fast that he gets out of control which results in questionable decision making.Bottom Line:
Boatright is a lead guard that can score although he has the ability to get others involved. He is super quick and his handle is flawless. He must continue to work on getting others involved which he is very capable and is talent is undeniable.
As always, we'll do our best to get your more information, so stay tuned.
