Wild Opening Saturday of College Football

My first thought is Les Miles is the luckiest coach in America. UNC had no business being in that game down 13 players with your LSU Tigers. Two endzone incompletions with :06 seconds saved your job.

Hats off to UNC. North Carolina QB T.J. Yates played the 2nd of his life and the Heels nearly pulled off a monster upset. Let’s get back to Miles for a moment. He reminds me of Georgia Tech basketball head coach Paul Hewitt. They always have tremendous athleticism and raw talent on their teams, but oh so poorly coached.

You know some people weren't too happy about Jeremiah Masoli going to Ole Miss then winning his NCAA appeal to play this year. Well those folks feel pretty good right now. Ole Miss lost 49-48 to Jacksonville St. That would be FCS school Jacksonville St. Ole Miss Houston Nutt looked absolutely shell-shocked after the defeat.

That is simply an embarrassing loss no matter how you slice it for the Rebels.

North Dakota St. 6 Kansas 3 Are you kidding me? Does Kansas head coach Turner Gill have any eligibility left? Gill was such a good quarterback when he was at Nebraska in the early 80s.

TCU beat Oregon St. 30-21. The Horned frogs are good really good. Andy Dalton is a heckuva of quarterback. I can't wait till TCU and Utah hookup later this year.

Les Miles is one lucky coach... did I already say that?

Florida State's Greg Reid is the best punt return man in the country. He returned a punt 74 yards in FSU's 59-6 win over Samford. LSU's is Patrick Peterson is a great kick returner but Reid is better.

I went to Clemson today and the Tigers won 35-10 over North Texas. That's the good news. That bad news is the supposedly strong Clemson Tiger Defense gave up 462 yards of offense. That wasn't garbage time either against one of the worst Division 1 teams out there. Clemson better clean that up before they get into the meat of their schedule.

Whoo what a day. I'm so glad College Football is back.
