NC State: Another Practice, Another Season-Ending Injury

WRAL Story.

State had their first scrimmage of the fall season and, predictably, we learned of a players lost for the season to injury. Again.

This time the player in question is sophomore Jesse Riley, who injured his knee during practice on Sunday. He tore his ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the year, further depleting a depth chart at cornerback that’s already lost Rashard Smith and Jarvis Byrd to knee injuries.

There’s already talk of shifting around some safeties to cornerback. And once we run out of safeties, we’ll just start rotating in linebackers, then defensive ends, then defensive tackles. It’s only a matter of time.

As to the results of the scrimmage itself, here’s an alarming stat for you: 55 rushes for 92 yards. Let’s hope that yardage number is being weighted down with negative yardage from the six sacks and eight total tackles for loss. Otherwise the YPC figure of 1.672 becomes even more alarming than it already is.
