The ACC Media days have come to a close. There were coaches interviewed. There were players interviewed. Everyone is optimistic during this time. For a full report on the 2 day event checkout the ESPN.com summaries of each day.
What I want to talk about specifically are the ACC Preseason picks. You can take a look at the picks courtesy of our friend at ACCblitz.com.
Now the much-anticipated All About Sports ACC picks will be coming out in the next couple days. At least I hope some of you are anticipating those picks!
Anyways I can say I agree with preseason picks of Virginia Tech and Florida State as the Division Champions. I also will go with the Hokies to win it all.
Where I am surprised is the overwhelming number of votes for FSU's QB Chrisitian Ponder to win the ACC player of the year. 45 - 16 over second place finisher Virginia Tech's RB Ryan Williams. I like Ponder. I think he's the best quarterback in the ACC. I even said so in my ACC quarterback rankings, but I think media is selling several other players short.
I would have expected a much closer vote. Ryan Williams of Virginia Tech is the ACC's best RB. He was spectacular as a freshman and I don't see him slowing down. QB Joshua Nesbitt of Georgia Tech could have even bigger stats than he did last year. Without RB Jonathan Dwyer or WR Demaryius Thomas he will be an even bigger focus on the offense. I was shocked to see him 6th in the voting.
Hokie QB Tryod Taylor, Wolfpack QB Russell Wilson, Tar Heel DE Robert Quinn and Clemson QB Kyle Parker all could have big seasons too. Not surprised Ponder finished number 1, but by the wide margin did.
