Update (12:30 PM ET)
Blue Devil Nation has added a story on the games that featured Duke players last night.
Kyrie Irving wasted little time in wowing the crowd by daring the defenders to stay with him using cross over dribbles and stutter steps to free up his shot or set up a dish to a teammate. Irving hung in the air for one showboat assist which brought the crowd to their feet, but it was a catch while hanging in mid air and a tomahawk dunk that really had the place rocking. Irving ended the evening with 22 points and 7 assists. Irving was scheduled to go against N.C. State freshman Ryan Harrow who failed to show due to prior obligations.
Thursday saw what was supposed to have been the first matchup between Ryan Harrow and Kyrie Irving, until Harrow backed out with some other obligations. On top of leading his team to a victory on Thursday night, Irving found time to do an interview with Blue Devil Nation.
The highlight of the Pro-Am on Thursday wasn't during the action on the court it was when Durham, NC native Rodney Rogers was honored. Here's more from the N&O...
Rodney Rogers received an extended ovation at N.C. Central's McDougald-McLendon Gym on Thursday when he spoke to the crowd at halftime of the 6 p.m. game at the SJG Greater NC Pro-Am.
Rogers, the former NBA, Wake Forest and Durham Hillside star, has been confined to a wheelchair since a dirt-bike accident left him paralyzed below the shoulders in 2008. He was at the Pro-Am on Thursday to raise money for his foundation, which provides financial support to paralysis victims.
I still remember seeing Rogers play in Durham's Edison Johnson gym when I was younger. Even at my young age it was easy to see Rogers' athleticism and physical nature. Rogers has a new challenge, and I'm sure its one he can overcome.
Video is still trickling in from last night's action, but here is some action from Tuesday...
