Apparently Butch Davis wants no more of this quarterback nonsense.
Inside Carolina is reporting Charlotte’s Marquise Williams, Scout.com’s #15-ranked quarterback nationally, will be coming to UNC. He chose the Heels over Virginia Tech and Michigan. He is the second highly-rated QB prospect for 2011, joining Everett Golson of Myrtle Beach.
Williams, a four-star recruit, threw for 2,400 yards and ran for another 1,000 in his high school’s spread offense, accounting for 40 touchdowns. Inside Carolina ranks him as the #4 prospect in the state.
Quarterback is one of those positions I just don’t get. Sometimes the highly-rated ones don’t pan out (see Thomas, Mike and Curry, Ronald) and the best ones are guys you’ve never heard of (see Durant, Darian and Stanicek, Jason). But you’ve gotta give Butch and his staff credit for addressing a need. With Bryn Renner in the fold, the Heels have some pretty solid credentials under center.
