Summer Thoughts on Kyrie Irving, Harrison Barnes, and More...

Random Tidbits from the ACC...

  • Jason Williams may be biased, but he'd take Kyrie Irving over John Wall as his point guard if he was starting a team
  • AJ Yawn tweeted today that FSU's basketball team would "shock the world" this next season.  Despite the loss of Solomon Alabi, FSU should be better next season, keyed by the return of Chris Singleton.  Singleton flirted with the NBA Draft but decided another year at FSU would be best for him.  Singleton will have to assert himself more offensively next season to become a complete player after winning defensive player of the year honors in the ACC last season.
  • Notes and Video from the Chris Paul camp told me what I already knew about Harrison Barnes.  The only thing keeping him from being 1st team All-ACC is his aggressiveness on the floor.  Barnes has a Kobe Bryant-like skillset, but lacks that same killer attitude.  If Roy Williams can convince Barnes to be "the man", the Heels would be much better off.
  • In other news from the CP3 camp, the trio of Duke attendees Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith, and Seth Curry all impressed.  It's hard not to be impressed with the talent on next year's Duke roster.  Adding Curry and freshman Kyrie Irving to the roster, both potential All-ACC performers, only makes Duke scarier.  Keep in mind that Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com called Curry the best player on the floor when he watched Duke practice last season.
  • Speaking of Kyrie Irving, the incoming Duke point guard just made the USA's U18 team, while receiving rave reviews in tryouts.  One prominent viewer of the tryouts who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that Irving was the best player on the court, "and it wasn't even close."  Also on the U18 team is Irving's future teammate at Duke, Josh Hairston.
  • It's almost summer camp time for most schools so we should start to get some summer video and news coming.
  • If I recall correctly, our newest content partner DukeHoop.Blogspot.com will be taking in action from the Greater NC Pro-Am.  Traditionally Duke, NC State, and UNC players participate in games as well as other ACC and NBA players.  We look forward to sharing game reports from the action.
  • We look forward to unveling our Message Boards on July 1st.  We will be announcing a prize for the first user to get to 1,000 posts, and trust me when I say it will be worth your while.  We hope to make our message boards a centralized location for ACC sports fans to talk junk (in a civilized manner of course) and share information.
  • Finally, I leave you with a video of Nolan Smith "bowling", if you call it that...
