I have to say I'm not sorry about what happened to the USC Trojans today. The NCAA put the hammer down on the California school. There was 4 years of probation, a 2 year bowl ban, a loss of 30 scholarships, and 13 vacated wins including an Orange Bowl win.
All of this stemming from the actions of one man, Reggie Bush, but how much blame does he deserve? John Taylor at NBCSports.com skewers Bush in his article "Don't forget the true villain in USC mess: Reggie Bush"
Ouch was all I could think after reading that. A small part of me agrees with Taylor. Despite Bush's age at the time of, he may have single handily crippled USC sports. How he's gotten off relatively scott free is a little surprising, but really what can you do?
Bush is long gone from USC, and NCAA rules were broken. Someone has to answer, and unfortunately the USC football program is who is going to do that. USC could have save themselves the brunt of this punishment had they truly investigated the allegations, and instituted some self-imposed sanctions.
They didn't they turned a blind eye to the investigation just like they turned a blind eye to what Bush was doing. That's what you call a "lack of institutional control"
