Today's play-in matchup features the 14 seed Duke Blue Devils 1977-78 versus the 19 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 1989-90.

The winner of the best of 5 series will get #3 UNC 81-82.

Duke leads the series 1-0

Notes: Jim Spanarkel scored 27 points on 9-18 shooting and 9-10 from the free throw line to lead Duke to the win in the series opener.  Spanarkel joined Gene Banks (21 pts, 10 rebs) and Mike Gminski (20 pts, 11 rebs) to combine to score 68 of Duke's 91 points in the win.  Georgia Tech's famed trio of Dennis Scott (24 pts), Kenny Anderson (21 pts), and Brian Oliver (14 pts) scored all but 4 points for the Yellow Jackets, but it wasn't enough.

Notes: For the 2nd straight game, Jim Spanarkel dominated scoring 25 points and did a good part of his work from the free throw line, going 13-15.  Gene Banks (19 pts, 9 rebs), Kenny Dennard (13 pts, 11 rebs), and Mike Gminski (12 pts, 7 rebs) each added double-figures.  Georgia Tech was led by 23 points from Brian Oliver, while Kenny Anderson added 20 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds.  Dennis Scott struggled in game two, making just 2 of 9 shots and scoring 10 points.

Duke sweeps the series 3-0

Notes: Jim Spanarkel scored 20 points and added 4 assists and 5 rebounds in game three to lead Duke to the series win.  Gene Banks (13 pts, 8 rebs) and Kenny Dennard (11 pts) also scored in double-figures in the win.  The difference was turnovers as the Blue Devils forced the Yellow Jackets into 15 turnovers while the ball over just 7 times.  Dennis Scott scored 23 points and added 8 rebounds in the loss.
