Jeff Goodman is reporting that BC will interview Steve Donahue on Wednesday for the vacant head coaching position.
Donahue has been the head coach at Cornell since 2000 and the program has seen steady improvement each year. They have made the NCAA Tournament the last 3 seasons including a sweet 16 appearance this year.
Donahue no doubt has a high basketball IQ and has experience coaching at a fine academic institution. My concerns are that he has no experience above the Ivy League. I would also worry about his recruiting abilities, since recruiting in the Ivy is completely different from the ACC.
I expect DeFilippo to interview several candidates for the job so we'll see where Donahue ends up in the mix.
Also to interview Wednesday is former Skinner assistant Ed Cooley. Cooley just finished his 4th season at Fairfield with a 23-11 record. Cooley coached at URI and BC under Skinner from 1996-06.
Cooley said he considers this "his dream job". As much as I like Cooley, I'm just not sure DeFilippo would replace Skinner with one of his proteges just after firing him.
