5 Saturday Evening Thoughts on the ACC Tourney

The following article was written by a guest writer and a Twitter follower named Bennett.  Make sure to follow him on Twitter at @ben_nett, and hopefully we'll see a lot more articles coming from him on SCACCHoops.com

After a long week of insanity from Greensboro, North Carolina in the ACC Tournament, there is nothing better to do from what we saw from Thursday to Saturday (excluding the championship game on Sunday) than talk about it. So here are 5 thoughts about the insane conference tournament.

1. If anyone ever says the ACC isn't deep, slap them. After we’ve watched both 11 and 12 seeds make it to the semifinals, as well as 7th seed Georgia Tech upset favorite Maryland, there’s no reason anybody should consider the ACC to have a weak spot from top to bottom.

2. “I Need A Hero” should be the theme song of the ACC. With the upsets we’ve seen all week, they’ve all had one central theme: one guy steps up and carries the team to victory. Sammy Zeglinski, Reggie Johnson, Derrick Favors, Tracy Smith, Durand Scott, and Scott Wood all did this for their teams this week.

3. If you hustle in the ACC Tournament, you’ll probably win. The ACC, being one of the top conferences in the country, has good players across the board. Players that were meant for the postseason, and players that will be making a lot of cash in a couple of years. Which means any team could expose the talent and win the whole thing in Greensboro. So to get above that level, you need to hustle. As you saw, Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Duke all out-hustled their opponents, and all got to the semifinals.

4. One thing kept teams from winning this week: bad fundamentals. I couldn’t stand watching so many teams this week lose because of things they have been preached to since they were 5. As said in #3, teams weren’t hustling. Teams were turning the ball over. Teams were forcing up quick, bad shots. And every single team that did that this week lost, including Florida State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, and North Carolina.

5.Wall-to-Wall Coverage of the ACC Tournament was found in no place but Twitter. I would not have had near the knowledge, near the analysis, near the great opinions if it wasn’t for Twitter. If you want to get that analysis too for the upcoming NCAA Tournament, you should follow @scacchoops, @ACCSports, @onthebrinklive, @KilroyFSU,  @ben_nett @D1scourse, @GPLupton, @turkeynole, @HokiesJournal, @gobblercountry, @HowardTheDunk, @theACC, and @accmbb.

And as the ACC Tournament will come to a close tomorrow with the Championship game, the insanity will end- but only temporarily. The NCAA Tournament seeds are revealed tomorrow night, right after the Championship game. The insanity will end, but the madness will just begin- are you ready?
