Some completely random observations from our shot data...
- The most difficult shot type to hit is the running jump shot which averages 40 feet, which tells me these are likely halfcourt buzzer beaters. The longest made shot we have recorded is a 73 footer by Nolan Smith against Loyola-MD on 12/31/2008. Players make just 8%of running jump shots.
- The next most difficult shot is the jump shot which averages 17 feet. Players hit just 33% of jump shots, which includes both 2 point and 3 point shots.
- Maryland's Eric Hayes is the the best shooter of the jump shot given significant attempts. Hayes makes 51% of his jump shots. Others at the top of the list: Marcus Ginyard, Jack McClinton, James Johnson, Courtney Fells, Ty Lawson.
- Among the worst jump shooters with significant attempts: Demontez Stitt, Derwin Kitchen, Lance Hurdle, Greivis Vasquez, Gerald Henderson.
- Outside of shots from 0 feet, 7 foot shots are the next most successful in terms of FG% at 40%.
- Outside of shots from 0 feet, 3 point shots up to 27 feet are the most successful in terms of eFG%.
- Shots of a distance of 0 feet account for 34% of all shots.
- The average distance of shot for a winning team (10 feet) is the exact same for a losing team (10 feet)
