UVA's struggles have been well documented this year. They are 3-5 on the year having managed to piece together a three-game winning streak in the middle of the year with wins at North Carolina and at Maryland.
Virginia's offense has been anemic to this point. They average just under 21 points a game and about 263 yards of total offense. The ineptness of the offense can be blamed on the quarterback play. Senior Jameel Sewell Sewell has completed only 53% of his passes and has thrown 6 tds and 6 ints. He missed last week's game against Miami and his listed as questionable for the game against BC. If he is not able to play we will see junior Marc Verica, who struggled mightily against Miami last week.
UVA's run game has actually been solid, although they usually fall behind early forcing them to pass more. Big bruising back Rashawn Jackson has averaged 5.6 yards per carry while sharing time with Mikell Simpson. One player to key in on is senior wide out Vic Hall. Hall will play all over the field; he takes snaps from the center, he catches passes, and he rushes the ball. He is a former defensive back who broke out in the last game of the season last year with a strong performance against Virginia Tech. Look for the Cavaliers to try and get the ball to him as he is really the only big playmaker on offense.
Virginia's defense has been marred by inconsistent play. In the three consecutive wins they allowed a combined 19 points. However, since then they have allowed 114 points in the next three games. They have been gouged for huge yardage both on the ground and through the air on more than one occasion.
Another thing to consider is that BC is 0-3 on the road this season and Virginia is just 1-4 at home. Virginia has seemed to struggle in front of their home fans that have lost support in the team. Virginia has been booed at several points this season which is never good for a team's psyche. BC meanwhile looked much better on the road against ND, although costly turnovers proved too much to overcome.
I look for the Eagles to get back on the winning track on the road with a win over a struggling UVA team. BC clearly is more talented and better coached in every aspect.
