ACC Football Week #6: Preview

We should call this “Danger! Will Robinson” Week.

Virginia Tech seems to have regular season issues with Boston College while handling them in the two ACC title games they have played against each other. You also have a BC team who is playing better than anyone could have dreamed of and a Hokie defense that at times opts for the buffet instead of Bud Foster’s lunch pail. Still I don’t think VT stumbles here but the danger level if fairly high nonetheless.

The same holds true for NC State playing Duke. This is not a game the Wolfpack should take lightly given the nature of their secondary and the Blue Devils’ penchant for tossing the pigskin all over the field. This could end up being one of the more entertaining games of the day from an offensive explosion standpoint.

Maryland and Wake Forest square off with all kinds of Atlantic Division implications on the line. The Terps can stake a 2-0 ACC record and command of the division. Wake Forest can put themselves in relatively good position by getting to 2-1 and hoping for BC to lose. Maryland lost a couple of key offensive players in the win over Clemson so I imagine what happened last week will look like a flash in the pan this week.

In Atlanta, Georgia Tech can facilitate the continual disintegration of the Bobby Bowden regime by effectively eliminating the Noles from a division title in ACC. FSU has never started an ACC season 0-2(their present record) so 0-3 and 2-4 overall would probably feel to Tallahassee like 8-20 did in Chapel Hill. The difference being Dean Smith had long been gone when the train wreck occurred whereas Bobby Bowden was content to stick around and help it along. The bad news for FSU? I don’t think Jimbo Fisher is Roy Williams.

Mark this down. UVa will get crushed by Indiana which will only piss Tar Heel fans off even more. It will be the equivalent of BC losing to Harvard in January after the win in Chapel Hill.

Miami will run Florida A&M out of the state.

And as much as I would like to express confidence that UNC will do the same to Georgia Southern I can’t. Yes the offense scares me that much. The good news is I think the defense can pitch a shutout, possibly collected a safety and the Heels still win.

Predictions

Virginia Tech 30 BC 20
NCSU 41 Duke 33
Wake Forest 34 MD 17
Georgia Tech 37 FSU 14
Indiana 33 UVa 10
Miami 48 Fla A&M 13
UNC 2 GSU 0
