Jerome Burney Calls It Quits at Maryland

Patrick Stevens confirms in the Washington Times D1scource blog that PF Jerome Burney's playing days are over at Maryland. Burney's chronic foot problems that forced him to redshirt as a freshman and then miss most of last season just wouldn't go away so he is taking a position as assistant strength and conditioning coach. It is a shame that Burney never got to show what he was capable of doing. That leaves Sophomore Steve Goins as the only returning player over 6'8" and puts even more pressure on freshmen Jordan Williams and James Padgett to contribute right away. For Maryland to meet expectations this year that will have to happen as Goins had off season surgery and Dino Gregory is a virtual non-factor on offense.
