There was a good article in the ACC Sports Journal regarding the coaching succession plans that Florida State and Maryland put in place the last few years. It is too early to make a definitive judgement but they have started off about as well as some of those Medieval Papal successions. At least Jimbo Fisher had been the offensive coordinator at a big time program like LSU in the best college football conference. We'll just have to wait and see with Maryland's James Franklin but the results of the last 16 games have not been comforting.
