Virginia Tech has picked up Florida transfer Allan Chaney. After sitting out a season, the 6'8" forward will be a redshirt sophomore available in the 2010-11 season. Chaney wasn't happy with the situation at Florida, so he chose to transfer after the end of his freshman season...
The 6-foot-8 forward was displeased with how Florida used him — playing him mostly in the paint as opposed to facing the basket, which he prefers. Arthur Chaney said Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg said he “plans to utilize Allan in multiple ways to take advantage of his skill set” in a meeting at Chaney’s mother’s Baltimore home a couple weeks back.
“The opportunity is going to be there for him,” Arthur said of his son. “There’s no reason that Seth Greenberg won’t use Allan to his fullest. Hopefully (after he sits out a season due to transfer rules), he’ll be a year older, a year more mature, a year stronger, and hopefully he can be a part of turning that program around, to the upswing.”
Chaney played in 23 games, starting 2, and averaged 3.0 ppg and 2.1 rpg for Florida in his freshman season. The Hokies may need a replacement for Jeff Allen who may turn his eyes toward the NBA after the upcoming season.
