One example of a flex offense set BC uses
Boston College runs a tight flex motion offense, an offense that Head Coach Al Skinner has stuck with over the years here at BC. The flex is certainly not the flashiest offense in basketball, but it is effective and productive if run patiently. Skinner's teams in recent years have demonstrated how well the flex can perform if managed correctly.
Many fans have questioned whether or not this year's squad has the right personnel to operate this flex offense. It certainly seems that fast, athletic players like Rice and Sanders would be better suited for a running style of offense, like that of UNC. However, the beauty of the flex is that it can work with just about any style player. The key is patience, something that this young team might still be developing. There seems to be times when the flex works very well for this team and other times when the team looks confused and out of place.
I think Al Skinner and company should stick with their offensive system. The team is going through some growing pains now, but hopefully they can work out the kinks before conference play begins. The last thing you want a young team to do is run wild. The flex allows the team to be patient and set up for open shots. I like the fact that BC is pressing more of defense, looking to create turnovers and transition buckets. But in all likelihood, when playing in a half-court set the flex is our best bet to win games.
