UNC: Fedora Press Conference Notes and This Week's Depth Chart

First up here is this week's UNC depth chart.

There is a lot of "OR" on the chart, particularly at the second spot on several positions. The focal point will be on the lack of decision at quarterback which shouldn't shock anyone who has been paying attention. It also matters very little since chances are both Marquise Williams and Mitch Trubisky will see a fair number of snaps in the opener. Romar Morris is listed with T.J. Logan and freshman Elijah Hood is paired off with Khris Francis. Chances are all four of those players see snaps. Bug Howard and Quinshad Davis are locked into two of the WR spots. The third is between Kendrick Singleton and Ryan Switzer.

On the defensive side, redshirt freshman Dejaun Drennon will start at defensive end. The only question mark for a starter on defense is at defensive tackle where Ethan Farmer's status is still up in the air.

Here are the highlights of what Tar Heel head coach Larry Fedora had to say to the media.

-No decision on quarterback yet. Fedora says the players will be told some time this week but the decision will not be made public. When asked why he wouldn't released it publicly, Fedora deadpanned, "Because it bothers everybody."

-Excited about what the running backs are doing. Noted that all four can run routes out of the backfield or from other spots on the field. Fedora also said the pass protection from this unit has been very good.

-No news on Ethan Farmer's status for Saturday. They are "preparing both ways" which was indicated on the depth chart.

-Concern over the lack of experience on the offensive and defensive lines. There is depth there but not a significant number of actual game snaps by the personnel.

-Fedora notes that Liberty is a veteran team that has good size upfront on both sides of the ball and talented playmakers. He believes the Flames, under coach Turner Gill, will be "solid."

-Regarding whether there is an advantage facing Liberty versus South Carolina in the opener, Fedora simply says they still consider this a big game because it's the next game on the schedule.

-When asked about how the offense adjusts to losing Eric Ebron, Fedora said it does change with attrition and it revolves around the talent. Fedora says his job is to play the to the strengths of the personnel and hide the weaknesses.

-Fedora says TE Jack Tabb had the most reps of any player in camp. Tabb was one of the players wearing a GPS monitor to record how much he was on the field.

-No expectations of Elijah Hood other than him taking care of the football. Fedora says if he does that, the rest will take care of itself.
