The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Championship on Sunday night knocking off the Miami Heat 4-1 in the best of seven series. Spurs guard Danny Green became the 15th former Tar Heel to win an NBA Championship as a player.

In last season's NBA Finals, Green burst onto the scene hitting 27-49 from three in a losing effort as the Heat beat the Spurs in seven games. This time around Green's shooting wasn't nearly as prolific but he did have his moments. In the opening game, Green helped the Spurs open up a close game scoring 11 straight points midway through the fourth quarter to turn a one point deficit into a five point lead. In Game 3, Green scored 15 points and had five steals helping to fuel the first of three straight blowout wins to close out the Heat in five games.

Even when Green wasn't playing well he drew plenty of praise from ABC analyst Mark Jackson who noted that the fifth year player was the consummate teammate. Green spent much of his time on the bench cheering and encouraging his teammates.

With his first NBA ring, Green joins a very exclusive group of former UNC players. He becomes only the third Tar Heel to win an NCAA title at UNC then a championship in the NBA as a player. The other two? Michael Jordan and James Worthy.
