#therivalry: Wake Forest and Boston College

Wake Forest and Boston College will face off on Saturday afternoon in another historic installment of #therivalry.

Wake Forest and Boston College is perhaps the most under-publicized rivalry in college athletics. Last season the two schools played on February 13th, which was the same night as Duke-North Carolina. Coincidence? I think not. This storied rivalry dates back for nearly a decade and the current players have grown up watching #therivalry unfold. The campuses of Boston College and Wake Forest University are separated by a mere 772 miles and these schools come from some of the most hallowed grounds in the history of basketball. After all, the game of basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in Massachusetts and Wake Forest is part of Tobacco Road.

Saturday's showdown is set for a 4:00 p.m. tip and will be shown nationally on ESPN (3). Two years ago these foes met in Chestnut Hill, Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik compared the game to the "Super Bowl." It only seems fitting that a game broadcast across tablets and laptops everywhere be compared to the highest viewed event on television.

Both head coaches took over their respective programs in 2010. Since that time they have faced off six times and, as classic rivals tend to, have split the series 3-3. Furthermore, during that stretch the average game has been decided by just 2 points. Now that's far more riveting than any Super Bowl I've seen lately.

Boston College better bring all of their weapons on Saturday because thousands of people will be there cheering against them. I don't often give advice to my enemies, but all I'll say is don't bring just a knife to a #bzdelikmachineguntimeout fight.
