The ACC's three biggest men's basketball questions for week of December 26, 2022

What are the biggest questions in ACC basketball this week?

Does Virginia Tech recover from the Boston College loss?

Virginia Tech looked so bad against Boston College letting the Eagles dictate and control the 2nd half it brings into question the Hokies. Was it a one-game hiccup or are there major issues developing for them?  Virginia Tech will find out quickly with a game at dangerous Wake Forest. The Deacs recently beat Duke on their home court and have won at Wisconsin. They are a very capable team, but it has been a bit of a roller coaster in them closing out games they’ve led in the 2nd half. Wake Forest could solidify their resume, and raise even more questions about where Virginia Tech is headed.

Is Pittsburgh ready to make a run at the NCAAs?

Pittsburgh has won 8 of their last 9 games and has two Q1 wins, but they haven’t quite been seen as an NCAA threat. We know they can shoot lights out at times, and they are one of the ACC’s best rebounding teams. They get a hot UNC team at home Friday. The Tar Heels seemed to have righted themselves, so this would be seen as a high-quality win for the Panthers. Pittsburgh as an NCAA threat couldn’t be ignored any longer with a win.

Can Clemson remain undefeated in the ACC?

Clemson and NC State are playing a massive game on Friday. A win for Clemson would send them to 11-3 (3-0) in the ACC. NC State would get back to .500 in the ACC and get a valuable road victory. What is 3-point specialist Alex Hemmenway’s status after a plantar fasciitis diagnosis? All three of NC State’s losses have been by single digits. They are a tough out, but Clemson is undefeated at home. With games at Virginia Tech and Pitt afterward, this is a virtual must-win for Clemson. You could argue the same for the Wolfpack who have already taken a home loss to Pitt. With the game at Clemson though, I give the edge to the Tigers in this one.
