Syracuse, Miami target Jalen Carey trims list to three schools

And one of them is Syracuse.

The Syracuse Orange just came off of a major recruiting weekend in basketball with Buddy Boeheim making his commitment official while simultaneously hosting already commited and top 10 recruit Darius Bazley. This was tactically done as the Orange also hosted Jalen Carey, who just trimmed his recruitment down to three schools yesterday.

The good news? Syracuse is one of those schools.

The bad news? I guess there isn’t any unless you want to include that football loss to MTSU...

Anywhosers, Carey is now down to Miami, UConn and Syracuse per Zags Blog. Carey’s father, John Carey, spoke with Zagoria yesterday.

“They’re recruiting him as a point guard. He’s the only point guard they’re recruiting in this class right now. Basically he would come in, he could play right away, they want him to lead the team and they want him to play with [Darius] Bazley. With him, Oshae Brissett and Buddy Boeheim, it’s looking really, really scary over there.”

Scary indeed. And with the forward spot all but secured for the next few years, Syracuse is zeroing in on a point guard for 2018.

“They love him. Boeheim said he’s definitely a big time player. He could play right away. He could see him getting drafted maybe one, two years,” the elder Carey said. “But other than that we’re just focusing on evaluating these three schools because these are three good visits, three good schools. Two of them are recruiting as a combo guard, and Syracuse as a point guard.”

It’s hard to say whether or not it will be advantageous for Syracuse to recruit Carey as a point as opposed to a combo guard. Jim will be doing an in-home visit with Carey on Thursday while Kevin Ollie will visit with him the following day. Jim Larranaga is visiting with John Carey tomorrow.

After this week we can expect a decision relatively soon. Carey is focussing on a fall decision, likely before the start of the basketball season.

For what it’s worth, 247 sports has Syracuse as the favorite to land Carey at 71 percent.
