Pitt loses starting center Artie Rowell to injury in win

For the second consecutive week, Pitt suffered an injury to a key player.

Last week, the Panthers lost Tyler Boyd to a dislocated finger. Boyd did return for Friday's game against Boston College, but missed the second half of that Delaware opener. On Friday, it was starting center Artie Rowell going down.

If you saw the play, Rowell went down on what seemed like a relatively harmless play. But the fact that he got up limping and wasn't able to put any pressure on it wasn't too encouraging. Officially, it was deemed a knee sprain. As you would expect, he missed the rest of the game as backup Gabe Roberts checked in and did a pretty good job.

Immediately after the game, Paul Chryst didn't have an update on Rowell's status. Rowell, FWIW, was on crutches later, so ... yeah.

We'll see how this goes. Knee injury for an offensive lineman isn't something you want to see. I pointed this out in the recap, but if Rowell misses any time, it's not only significant because of him being out of the lineup, but Pitt then is just one injury away from using the third-string center, which is generally an emergency role type of deal.

Hopefully he can get back on the field soon, but it's hard to be as optimistic about his injury as we were with Boyd's.
