The first major portal addition of the Louisville football “offseason” has arrived.
Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough, who began his career at Oregon, announced Tuesday night that he’ll spend his final season of college football playing for Jeff Brohm at U of L.

Shough (pronounced “shuck”) took an official visit to U of L earlier this week.
A four-star prospect coming out of high school, Shough spent three seasons at Oregon where he started every game of the 2020 season and led the Ducks to the Pac-12 championship. He then transferred to Texas Tech, where his three years in Lubbock were hampered by injuries.
Three injuries in three seasons — most recently a shoulder injury that ended his 2023 season in late September — resulted in Shough playing in just 15 games for the Red Raiders. He did shine at the end of the 2022 season, leading Texas Tech on a four-game winning streak to end the year. That run was highlighted by an MVP performance in the Texas Bowl in which he amassed 358 yards of total offense. That effort came on the heels of Shough producing 480 yards of total offense in a win over Oklahoma.
In 26 career college games, Shough has completed 355 of 562 passes for 4,625 yards and 26 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 714 yards and another 10 scores.

Shough has shown an ability to make the types of throws that were available but not made this season, and he also has the dual-threat ability that Brohm has previously stated that he’d like to have running the show for his ideal offense. The big question, obviously, is whether or not Shough can stay healthy for a full season.
It should also be noted that Shough is a high school teammate of Jawhar Jordan’s. Perhaps ... PERHAPS ... his addition could help sway Jordan to return for one more year on Floyd Street.
While Shough is certainly an exciting addition, his history says that Brohm and company need to have another option fully developed and ready to run the show should the situation call for it.
