Game Recap

It’s over. The 10+ years of futility for Georgia Tech basketball will come to an end on Selection Sunday. After a hard fought 75-63 win over Wake Forest, Georgia Tech ends the regular season 15-8 (11-6). Even with a opening loss in the ACCT, Georgia Tech will be dancing and I don’t believe even an appearance of the First Four variety.

They are probably in the 10-11 seed territory and can only work their up.

For Georgia Tech following a stunning last second loss 74-72 to Clemson, the season was on the brink.

I said they needed a 6-1 finish to make the dance. With the nearly sure win game of BC, cancelled, it became more and more apparent that Georgia Tech would probably need a 6-0 finish to lock up their bid.

That’s 6 straight must win games. They needed to beat a Pitt team that has one of the leading candidates for the POW in Justin Champagnie, at shorthanded but dangerous Miami who already  had beat Louisville and Duke at home, at ranked Virginia Tech, then fellow bubble teams Syracuse and Duke, and finally at Wake Forest with everything on the line.

Throw in a hobbled Jose Alvarado in the last 2 of those of the games, and Josh Pastner and his team dug in deep to pull off the improbable run.

Moses Wright has worked himself into they player of the year chase, as his remarkable season continues to parallel Georgia Tech’s overall season.

From season opening losses to Georgia State and Mercer, to NCAA team Georgia Tech just fought a year long uphill battle for NCAA respect.

Moses Wright came into this season a nice underrated player, and by the end of the year he was one of the 5 best players in the ACC putting up Tim Duncan type numbers.

Long suffering Georgia Tech basketball fans can finally enjoy a Selection Sunday knowing the Jackets finally have made the Big Dance. Not to be forgotten, the Georgia Tech women’s team will also be in the NCAA tournament marking the first time since since the 2009-2010 season that both Georgia Tech basketball teams will be in the NCAA Tournament.
