The 2019 wing player out of La Lumiere will enroll in June

Gerald Drumgoole verbally committed to Pitt back on Feb. 11, and he made his pledge official on Wednesday by signing his national letter of intent, according to an announcement from Pitt head coach Jeff Capel. The 6’6” small forward from Rochester, New York, is the first member of the 2019 recruiting class to sign with the program, and Capel commented on the development.

”Gerald is a proven winner with an outstanding approach to the game,” Capel said. “He is a selfless player willing to fill any role in order to help his team win. He has shown the ability to be an outstanding scorer as well as high-level defender and rebounder. His mental and physical maturity along with his work ethic will enable him to compete for immediate playing time.”

The La Lumiere product holds a four-star rating, according to the 247Sports composite, which also has him ranked as the No. 117 player nationally in the 2019 class. He was the first recruit to commit to Pitt and will be joined next year by Justin Champagnie and Karim Coulibaly.

Earlier this month, Drumgoole played in the GEICO Nationals and reached the national championship as a key member of the No. 1 team in the nation. However, the Lakers suffered their first defeat of the 2018-19 season to IMG Academy and finished 29-1 on the year.

For his part, Drumgoole averaged 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game and converted on 50.0 percent of his three-point attempts on the Prep Circuit with La Lumiere last season, making him a prime candidate to replace Jared Wilson-Frame’s production. Before transferring to the Indiana powerhouse from Irondequoit High School in Rochester, Drumgoole averaged 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists during his junior season.

Drumgoole will enroll at Pitt in mid-June, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, who went on to describe the small forward as an “immediate impact player for Jeff Capel.”
