Braedon Bayer will seek grad transfer opportunities

Hopefully the former walk-on ends up finding a scholarship opportunity.

Apparently Matthew Moyer isn’t the only Syracuse Orange departure this week.

According to a tweet from his father Greg, former SU walk-on Braedon Bayer will be looking at graduate transfer opportunities for his fifth and final season of eligibility.

Braedon spent two seasons at Syracuse after coming over from Grinnell College. He started out as a walk-on, but after Geno Thorpe left the team this past winter, he earned a scholarship for the final semester. He played 17 minutes all year, but none more important than the final six against Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

After starting point guard Frank Howard fouled out, Bayer was the only option left to play there. Though he didn’t take a shot during the game, he played staunch defense, registered a block and a steal. On the season, he scored two points (in the opener vs. Cornell) and had four rebounds to add to his line vs. MSU.

From the sound of his father’s tweet, it sounds like there may already be some opportunities out there for him to pursue. Hopefully he gets a shot wherever he lands. Bayer will always be remembered around these parts for what he pulled off during the upset over the Spartans.

Best of luck, Braedon! And thanks for your efforts here at SU.
