Game Recap

Jeff Hafley was one of the ACC coaches said I said before bowl season needed a bowl win the most.

Jeff Hafley is 21-26 (12-22) in 4 seasons at Boston College. They lost their last 3 games of the year to finish 6-6 and while I think Hafley is a good coach, the results scream mediocrity. BC has a brutal matchup with a good SMU team that comes in 11-2, and I don’t like Boston College’s chances in this game. Hafley needs it though. He has yet to cross the 6-win threshold at Boston College and after 4 seasons, it’s time to show progress. He either goes into season 5 with momentum or majorly on the hot seat.

Yep, I certainly thought it was a bad matchup for BC to face SMU, and breaking that 6-win threshold didn’t appear likely.

Good thing games are played on the field (when they are allowed to be), as SMU was favored by anywhere from 8-12 points.

Boston College as did a couple of ACC Bowl winners Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech rode their offensive line and run game behind a talented QB to lead the offense.

The Eagles ran for 262 yards, and QB Thomas Castellanos again proved why he is one of the better-returning QBs in the ACC. Castellanos did it with legs running for 155 yards and 2 TDs today.

Boston College at one point sat 6-3 but lost their final 3 games in ugly fashion. There were blowouts to Virginia Tech and Miami and an 8-point loss to a bad Pittsburgh team. If they had lost today for a 6-7 record Hafley is majorly on the hotseat for next year.

That’s how quickly things can change, from hot seat to momentum.

Next year’s schedule is a challenge. Out of Conference are Missouri and Michigan State. There are also games at Virginia Tech, Florida State, and SMU.

When you have a QB like Castellanos though, you have a chance to surprise people.

Now BC has some off-season momentum as well.
