Let's take a look at Miami football.

Best / Worst Case Record for :

Louisville | Virginia | Duke | Georgia Tech | Boston College | Pittsburgh | Florida State | Virginia Tech | NC State | Clemson |  Syracuse | North Carolina | Wake Forest

ACC 2023 Football Schedule

Miami

To put it kindly Mario Cristobal’s first season at Miami was a gigantic bust. The 2022 season start with so much promise. The Canes had a pre-season top 25 ranking, and a wealth of optimism entering the season. A 17-9 loss to a mediocre Texas A&M team tempered expectations, but the wheels came off when Middle Tennessee State thrashed Miami on their home field 45-31 in a game that wasn’t that close. Miami limped to a 5-7 season that included an embarrassing 45-3 loss to arch-rival Florida State. If a similar 2023 occurs, Cristobal might find his stay at Miami really short. That said there is some talent at Miami, and the injury bug did play a role in last year. The Canes are one of the ACC’s biggest wildcards going into this season.

Will Go 9-3 (5-3) if:

QB Tyler Van Dyke can return to his 2021 form. Van Dyke looked like an NFL prospect a couple of years ago. A variety of issues led to him and the Miami offense to struggle last season. Seven times last year the Canes were held to 21 or fewer points. The offensive line was inconsistent at best, and its improvement could really help Van Dyke and the offense. The offense gets a new OC Shannon Dawson, and if the offense takes watch out. Getting a win over Texas A&M could jump start the season and could lead to a 5-0 start, then an 8 or 9-win season becomes a real possibility.

Will Go 5-7 (2-6) if:

The new coordinators on offense and defense struggle. Miami is welcoming new coordinators on both sides of the ball. That’s a recipe for a huge success or a massive struggle. Miami doesn’t have enough talent to simply overwhelm opponents. There are three challenging road games right off against UNC, NC State, and Florida State. Homes games with Texas A&M and Clemson could be problems, as well as Louisville. It wouldn’t take, but a couple of more upsets, and the Canes could be staring at another losing season.
