BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Florida State, which won the 2012 ACC Championship, travels to Brooklyn, New York and the spectacular new Barclays Center to play BYU in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Friday, November 16, 2012. The Seminoles won their last game with a 95-68 win over Buffalo in Tallahassee on Monday night. Florida State's trip to New York is its first since advancing to the championship finals of the Preseason NIT in 1997 and its first against BYU since the 1972-73 season - one year after the Seminoles played for the NCAA National Championship. Florida State fell to BYU in the second round of the All-College Tournament on Dec. 29, 1972 in Oklahoma City, Ok. in the only meeting between the two teams. Following its game against BYU on Friday, the Seminoles will play either Notre Dame or St. Joseph's in the championship/consolation finals of the tournament on Saturday at either 7:00 or 9:30. Following the conclusion of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament the Seminoles will play their next game at home as they play host to North Florida on Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
FLORIDA STATE VS. BRIGHAM YOUNG -A SERIES HISTORY
Florida State will play Brigham Young in the semifinals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the newly opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game marks the first meeting between the Seminoles and the Cougars since Dec. 29, 1972 when BYU took an 80-77 win in the championship game of the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City, Ok. The game between the Seminoles and the Cougars marks the second of two games played at a neutral site. The game will mark the third consecutive year the Seminoles will meet a member of the West Coast Conference with Florida State earning wins over Loyola Marymount during both the 2010-11 season (in Los Angeles) and during the 2011-12 season (in Tallahassee).
