So who are the ACC winners and losers?
Winners
Pittsburgh
The ACC’s best-kept secret is that Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt Panthers have put out more NFL talent than anybody else in the ACC over the last 3 years. Pitt has produced 14 NFL picks ahead of Clemson at 13. You have to pay attention to what Narduzzi is doing there in Pittsburgh. He’s churning out the top 25 seasons and NFL picks. This year they tied Clemson with 6 NFL picks. That’s very impressive work.
Zay Flowers, Boston College
Remember the story last year of Zay Flowers getting multiple NIL offers to leave Boston College? Zay Flowers stayed loyal to Boston College and was rewarded with a 1st round NFL pick. You couldn’t help but be happy for Flowers. Boston College can feel especially good about this one.
Loser
Duke
Ok – this isn’t indicative of where Duke is as a program. Mike Elko did an amazing job last season coaching Duke to a 9-4 season. We went into last season knowing Duke didn’t have much high-end talent in the last few years. I think that this draft proved it. It also proved that Duke was a better team last than the individual parts last year. I would expect this number is going to up under Elko, and it will be as early as next year that you see some Duke players drafted.
Sean Tucker, Syracuse
Sean Tucker the last couple of seasons has been one of the best running backs the ACC has seen in the last 20 years. He ran for more than 2,500 yards in 2021 and 2022 and came into this year one of the top 10 backs in the country. His mystery illness during the first few months of this year left him out of plenty of pre-draft events. He ended up falling out of the draft which is stunning if you’ve seen him play. He did sign a UDFA deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
