Last week: 5-3  Overall: 42-7

Ball State vs. Virginia

This is a classic case of strength versus weakness. Ball State comes in to this game with the 10th best passing offense in the country, while Virginia's pass defense ranks eighth. A lot of this game will be decided about who has the advantage in this battle. But we also can't forget how bad Virginia' s offense is. There are some changes in store for the offense this week, and how those changes work will also be a big key to the game. I think the defense will do enough to keep the offense in it, and Virginia's offense will improve this week and the Cavs will end up winning a close one. Virginia 21, Ball State 16

Maryland vs. Florida State

It's time to find out just how for real Maryland is. The competition has not been the stiffest for the Terps. But they do come in to this game with the sixth ranked defense, averaging just under 264 yards per game. They are also allowing just 10 points per game, which ranks third. Florida State's defense is ranked 13th, giving up 287 yards per game. These offenses are ranked really high too. Florida State is ranked 10th, while Maryland is 17th. Maryland has not faced anybody like Jameis Winston this year, and he will have another big passing game, and FSU will win pretty easily. Florida State 34, Maryland 17

North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech

Remember when this was supposed to be a marquee matchup in the Coastal Division? Thanks to UNC's lack of defense and discipline, this game is a borderline must win game for UNC. They can't afford to fall to 1-4. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech is 4-1, and is on a three game winning streak, with all three games decided by eight points or less. They have been sloppy, but they have found a way to get the job done. Logan Thomas has run the ball 39 times in the last two weeks, and given the fact that UNC's rush defense is ranked 113th, I expect him to run it at least 15 times, with Trey Edmunds getting a similar amount of carries. The run game will carry the Hokies to the win. Virginia Tech 31, North Carolina 20

Army vs. Boston College

For the second and final time this season, Army gets a shot at an ACC team. They lost to Wake Forest in week four, but they have a much more difficult task ahead of them. Boston College is coming off of a loss to Florida State in which they looked rather tough for four quarters, and ran for 200 yards on the vaunted Florida State defense. Both teams will be running the ball a lot in this game. Army is the second ranked team in the nation in rushing, and is last in passing, throwing a total of 59 passes this season. Boston College will throw a lot more than Army does. Expect Andre Williams to have a big day on the ground, and the passing game will do whatever it wants to on the Army defense, and should win easily.  Boston College 35, Army 17

NC State vs. Wake Forest

This game will not move the excitement needle too much, but there is some intrigue here. NC State is going on the road for the first time this year, although that term should be used loosely, as they're heading just a little over 100 miles west for this game. Wake Forest has struggled mightily on offense, ranking 93rd in passing, and 107th in rushing. The Deacs also rank 107th in points per game. I think Wake will play better, but I still do not think they will be able to score enough. NC State will use the running game to wear down the Wake Forest defense, and will pull away in the end. NC State 28, Wake Forest 16

Clemson vs. Syracuse

After two games of rather little competition, the Orange get one of the three best teams in the country coming in to their home. Syracuse has scored 106 points in their last two games with Terrel Hunt at quarterback. But as I said before, he has not faced anyone on Clemson's level. The Tigers are coming off of a blowout win over Wake Forest, and the passing game should have no trouble getting going. I do think Syracuse will put up some points, but the Clemson passing game will carry them to a pretty handy win. Clemson 41, Syracuse 21

Georgia Tech vs. Miami

For those of you thinking Miami is back, let me dump some water on that. The best offense Miami has faced is ranked 71st, and that's the only offense ranked in the top 100 that the defense has faced. Georgia Tech's 51st ranked offense is far and away the best offense Miami has faced this year. Georgia Tech feels like the the same Georgia Tech teams of old-get a couple of scores ahead, and you're in good shape. Both teams will run well in this game, but I think Miami's passing game will be the difference in what will be a shootout. Miami 38, Georgia Tech 35
