After days of speculation, Louisville fans know who their starting quarterback will be when the Cardinals host Wake Forest on Saturday.

Bobby Petrino announced Thursday that Will Gardner will not play in this weekend's game against the Demon Deacons, and that true freshman Reggie Bonnafon will make the first start of his college career.

Gardner threw for 295 yards and a pair of touchdowns in last Saturday's win over Florida International, but left the game in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury. Gardner was spelled by backup quarterbacks Brett Nelson and Kyle Bolin, but not Bonnafon, who was back in Louisville attending his father's funeral.

Earlier this week, Petrino said that Bonnafon has done a good job of getting back into the flow of things from a football standpoint, and that he would be ready to go if Gardner wasn't able to play.

"He seems great," Petrino said of Bonnafon. "He's very motivated, he's excited. He had a very, very difficult week dealing with the tragedy of his father and all that goes with that. He hated not being able to go to the game last week because his teammates are a big part of his life. He was excited when he came back on Sunday to meetings and practice. He's done a very, very good job."

Petrino also added today that running backs L.J. Scott (who was also injured in the FIU win) and Michael Dyer (who missed the first three games of the season) will both play against the Demon Deacons.

It appears as though a large chunk of the fan base's wish is about to come true. Saturday certainly just got a little bit more intriguing.
