Wake Forest Kicker Adam Centers To Miss Season

Mike Weaver better not get injured this season.

Adam Centers, a sophomore place kicker, will miss the 2015 season due to a leg injury. Deacons Illustrated is reporting that Wake Forest head football coach, Dave Clawson, announced this news prior to tonight's 7 p.m. practice. Centers played last year as a true freshman, and was the team's kickoff specialist. He averaged nearly 62 yards per kickoff, and had a touchback percentage of 33%.

Centers was rated by the Kohl's Kicking Service as being the 2nd best place kicker in the 2014 recruiting class. He chose Wake Forest over an offer from the University of Virginia. I anticipate that he will redshirt this year and not lose a year of eligibility.

Clawson also announced tonight that Mike Weaver, who was responsible for field goal attempts and PAT's last season will now also kickoff. This news is made worse by the fact that Chad Hedlund, who was Wake Forest's place kicker in 2013, graduated early and transferred to SMU.

Mike Weaver will do a fine job on kickoffs. The real issue is if Weaver gets injured. Centers would have been more than capable of handling field goal duties had Weaver gotten injured, but there is now no one else on the roster who is a capable backup for Mike Weaver.
