A new scoreboard will be in place in a couple of months!
Ask and ye shall receive. A day after Ed wrote an article about Wake Forest needing to get a new scoreboard for the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum it has come to fruition! Wake Forest issued a press release this morning announcing a deal with Daktronics to update the videoboard for the upcoming season.
Is it cool with you guys if we build a new scoreboard and add some other fancy toys? #GoDeacs pic.twitter.com/JTXwFZMxWK

All joking aside, this is clearly a deal that has been in the works for quite some time, and the blueprints look fantastic.
According to the article there will be more than 5,000 square feet worth of LED displays that will be completed this summer. The largest screens facing the sidelines will be 15.5 feet high by 28 feet wide, while the end-zone displays will be 9.5 feet by 17.5 feet.
A minor thing that a lot of people don’t always think about until they are there is the ring between the upper and lower sections. That too will be renovated in addition to the centering display boards. There will also be two “marquee displays” outside the Joel to welcome fans/inform them of information and upcoming events.
I would encourage you all to read the press release for further details.
This is another huge step for Wake Forest in its commitment to upgrading athletic facilities to provide the best possible viewing experience for the fans. This obviously helps from a recruiting standpoint as well, which is always a win-win for fans and student-athletes alike.
Additionally, the speed of which it will take place will be fantastic as well, since it will be in place for the upcoming season (just a couple of months away at this point).
Fantastic job by Wake Forest, the LJVM, and Daktronics. We look forward to seeing it in place and what it does for the overall atmosphere of the Joel!
