Virginia Tech Quarterbacks Discussion With Mark Rogers

The Virginia Tech quarterback race, for the second year in a row, will enter fall camp as the biggest storyline ahead of the new football season. The early work by the coaching staff and the players in the rotation began this spring, with redshirt-freshman Josh Jackson, true freshman Hendon Hooker, and junior transfer A.J. Bush all readying themselves for an opportunity to replace last season’s starter Jerod Evans, who declared for the NFL Draft.

Coach Fuente and his staff have repeatedly stated that the race for the starting job is wide open right now, but with little media availability granted throughout the spring, it has been difficult to paint a completely clear picture of who is ahead in the battle to date.

Does Josh Jackson, with a full year of experience in the offense as a backup under his belt, have the inside track at the position? Can true freshman Hendon Hooker and all of the tools that he has displayed on film , gain enough attention and trust from the coaching staff to name him the starter? Can the transfer A.J. Bush learn the offense quickly enough to harness his athleticism and become the next great dual-threat quarterback for the Hokies?

With the spring game just a few days away on Saturday, April 22nd, I sat down with Mark Rogers to discuss what I think about all three guys, and who I believe may have the early lead at the position.

I encourage you all to follow Mark Rogers on Twitter here, and to also check out his YouTube page here. Mark does an excellent job covering all aspects of college football, while hosting numerous bloggers and other media members across all conferences from the best outlets around the landscape.
