UNC Basketball Holds First Exhibition Game Tonight

Basketball already?

Unlike the past few years, UNC is eschewing the not-so-secret scrimmage and playing two public exhibition games instead of just one. The first one is tonight against Division II school Fayetteville State with the Heels closing out the exhibition slate on November 7th versus Belmont-Abbey.

Clearly there isn't a ton of value in these games given the level of competition other than getting a first look at the starting lineup and the rotations. At this point it's a safe bet Marcus Paige, J.P. Tokoto, Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks will start with Roy Williams opting for Nate Britt at point guard or one of the freshman wing players at the two spot. Given Williams' history of deferring to veteran players, the likely scenario is Britt joins Paige, Tokoto, Johnson and Meeks on the floor for the opening tip.

Not that it matters, this kind of game has frequent rotation of players and weird lineup combinations written all over it. Williams loves to experiment with the lineup in the earlier games on the schedule and getting freshmen players Theo Pinson, Justin Jackson and Joel Berry playing time to get their feet wet is likely a prominent goal.

We will have full coverage of the game starting at 7:30 PM via Twitter and a recap with postgame audio afterwards.
