Game Recap

Not exactly a great display of basketball but the Tar Heels did more than enough to get a 89-62 win over Boston College.

The game opened up as a contest to see which team could score first. While Boston College's offensive woes are well documented,  UNC's shooting struggles continued unabated. It took over two minutes before Marcus Paige broke a three game streak of missed threes with one to put the Tar Heels up 3-0. Boston College showed some early moxy hitting early threes. UNC also started the game 0-8 at the line which kept the Tar Heels from getting off to a faster start. What did help the Tar Heels was BC's inability to take care of the basketball.  The Eagles turned the ball over 13 times in the first half which was two more turnovers than made field goals. UNC turned those miscues into 17 points.

After Boston College reeled off five straight points to cut the UNC lead to 24-23, UNC went on a 15-0 run to break the game open. Part of that run was the play of Theo Pinson. The sophomore wing had struggled of late but had some nice moments in the first half with four points and four assists. The Tar Heels run turned what had been a tight game into a blow out. Boston College answered to close the half with yet another UNC opponent hitting a three with less than five seconds left in the half to make it 41-30 at the break.

The second half opened with Boston College failing to score for the first six minutes and unable to keep the basketball. UNC took advantage with 10 straight points, seven from Joel Berry to extend the lead to 51-30. The Eagles answered with a run to cut the lead to 13 points 11:01 left in the half. From there the Tar Heels methodically opened the lead back up. Paige drilled his third three of the game and broke into double digits for the first time since his 30 point outing versus FSU. Justin Jackson, who also struggled to lately, finally cracked into the scoring column with a dunk and layup on back-to-back possessions. After an 0-8 start at the free throw line, UNC went 11-14 the rest of the way.

Brice Johnson led UNC with 17 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Joel Berry scored 13 points to go with six assists and zero turnovers. It was Berry's third straight game without a turnovers and four of the last five. Paige scored 12 points which may have shaken him from his slump at least for now. Theo Pinson finished up with six assists, nine points and his first made three since December 30th vs Clemson.

UNC is now 19-2 overall and 8-0 in the ACC with Louisville on Monday and a chance to open up a three game lead in the standings at the halfway point.
