Duke turns focus to 2013 recruiting class

Duke has really decided to hit the recruiting trail hard for the class of 2013 and the Blue Devils radar keeps picking up additional bleeps.  There is a thing called casting a wide net and then there is what Duke is doing so far with its next recruiting class.  The Blue Devils have now offered a scholarship to 2013 shooting guard Allerik Freeman. Freeman a 6-foot-4, 210 pound shooting guard from Charlotte, is the No. 25 prospect in the class.

Along with Duke, Freeman has offers from Kanas and Villanova according to Rivals.com. The Blue Devils already have a commitment from Matt Jones, another shooting guard in the 2013 class so it appears that Mike Krzyzewski wants some versatility and depth at the off guard position.

After this season Duke will lose Seth Curry to graduation and if Andre Dawkins does play he will also be graduating, leaving only Rasheed Sulaimon at the shooting guard position.

Granted Krzyzewski doesn't tend to play positions very much but he clearly wants to have the depth if he offered both  Jones and Freeman.

Another potential target is drawing some interest from Duke according to the Durham Herald Sun. They reported that the Blue Devils are looking at local prospect Tyrone Outlaw, a 6-foot-6 wing forward from Person High School in Roxboro, NC.

Outlaw averaged nearly 23 points 15 rebounds and 4 assists as a junior and is the No. 9 prospect in North Carolina.

So to date the Blue Devils have offered or expressed interest in a full rosters worth of players, 12 in all. That list includes some heavy hitters.

The No. 1 prospect Jabari Parker, the No. 2 prospect Julius Randle are the top targets. They have offered or expressed interest in power forwards Austin Nichols, Marcus Lee; small forward Andrew Wiggins (class of 2014), Ish Wainright, Semi Ojeleye; center BeeJay Anya;  and point guards Cat Barber and Tyler Ennis.

That is quite a list of prospects and considering how big of a roster hit they are taking this season, especially if Dawkins doesn't play it makes sense to see the staff look to reload the roster.

After this season aside from Curry and potentially Dawkins, Duke will lose Ryan Kelly and Mason Plumlee and that is a huge part of the team that will be gone so there will be a mad rush to add players especially since the 2012 recruiting class only features one player.
