Game Recap

WINSTON-SALEM Wake Forest got 23 points from C.J. Harris and 15 from Codi Miller-McIntyre as they rolled past second-ranked Miami 80-65 on Saturday afternoon. The Deacons shot 54 percent from the floor and went 7-12 from beyond the 3-point arc while holding the Hurricanes to 39 percent shooting.

The two teams traded baskets for the first ten minutes of the game before the Deacons (12-19, 5-9 ACC) went on a 16-2 run to take a 30-17 lead with five minutes to play in the first half. The Wake Forest charge was led by the hot shooting of Harris who made all five of his three-point attempts in the opening half. The Hurricanes (22-4, 13-1 ACC) countered with an 18-4 run of their own, eventually leading to a Durand Scott jumper that pulled the Hurricanes within 5 with 12:28 remaining.

Wake Forest finally overcame their penchant for late-game collapses and responded to the Hurricanes' final charge by running off 12 straight points to stretch the lead to 17 points, effectively sealing the game.

Despite Miami's decided size advantage, Travis McKie and Devin Thomas owned the paint, combining for 18 rebounds and 8 blocks. The Hurricanes' offensive woes forced Jim Larranaga to go with a smaller lineup for much of the second half. The Hurricanes had four players in double figures, led by Scott (17 points) and point guard Shane Larkin (13 points).

The loss was Miami's first in conference play this season, while Wake Forest notched a victory against the No. 1 or No. 2 team in the country for the first time since 2009. The final buzzer saw the Wake Forest student section surge out onto the playing floor for the second time this season, the other being a victory over North Carolina State back on January 22.

Next up for Wake Forest is a trip to Tallahassee to meet the Seminoles on Tuesday night (9:00 p.m., ESPNU). Miami welcomes Virginia Tech the following night for a 7:00 p.m. clash.
