The Demon Deacons take on the ULM Warhawks this Saturday and they will have some added help from strong safety Anthony Wooding, Jr., who was declared eligible to play immediately.

RT (Anthony Wooding, Jr.): Thank you NCAA...time to put in work

In late July Wake Forest received a commitment from Anthony Wooding, Jr., who transferred to Wake Forest after two years in the United States Air Force Academy. Air Force's Head Coach is Troy Calhoun, who was Wake Forest's offensive coordinator and quarterback coach from 2001-2003. Up until this point it was unclear whether or not Wooding, Jr. would be eligible to play this season or if he would have to sit it out. Today the Deacons received excellent news from the NCAA who informed Head Coach Jim Grobe and his staff that Anthony Wooding Jr. would be eligible to play immediately. Although he has not been eligible to play yet this season, the strong safety has still been practicing with the scout team so far this season; presumably so that he did not take away practice reps from players who were definitely eligible to play this season.

Anthony Wooding, Jr. will be a junior this season and therefore will have eligibility for the remainder of this season and next. In his two seasons at Air Force, Wooding, Jr. played in 23 games, starting 15 of them, and recorded 87 tackles and two interceptions. Wooding, Jr. will wear #11 and join Ryan Janvion and Thomas Brown at the strong safety position. It is unclear at this time how much playing time Wooding, Jr. will receive.
