Reggie Bullock's career high 24 points versus Maryland was good enough for ACC Player of the Week honors.

Bullock scored a career-high 24 points in the Tar Heels’ 62-52 win over Maryland Saturday, bettering his previous high of 23 points versus Tennessee State on Nov. 22, 2011. The Kinston, N.C., junior had 21 first-half points, out-scoring the visiting Terps by one point as North Carolina built a 42-20 halftime lead. Bullock hit on 7-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range and pulled down five rebounds in the victory.

Some quick stats on Bullock. He is hitting 47.7% of his three point shots and 48.1% in ACC play. Bullock is fifth in conference game scoring at 17.1 ppg. It also appears UNC, Bullock or both are making a concerted effort to ensure the junior from Kinston gets more looks. In the first 12 games of the season Bullock averaged 9.6 field goal attempts per game. In four ACC games, Bullock's field goal attempts have jumped to 12.75. He is taking three shots more per game and with good reason. He is UNC's best offensive option and showed it on Saturday. Assuming he continues to at that rate, there should be more significant scoring games in his future.

Speaking of the future, Roy Williams secured the first commitment in the class of 2014 in 6-1 PG Joel Berry. The commitment is being regarded by recruiting experts as a big get for UNC. ESPN has Berry ranked 12th overall, with Scout.com ranking him 15th and Rivals 22nd. Berry had an official visit over the weekend and was on-hand for the Maryland game. Clearly it made quite an impression on him since he was ready to end his recruitment now.

Berry's commitment marks the fifth straight class Roy Williams has brought a point guard in going back to Kendall Marshall in 2011. It also raises an potential glut at the position when Berry shows up on campus. Assuming no one leaves early and Stilman White returns from his Mormon mission there is a possibility of five PGs on the roster with White, junior Marcus Paige, sophomore Nate Britt, freshman Joel Berry and senior walk-on Luke Davis. Granted Davis and White would likely only see biscuit duty, UNC would be three deep with quality players at PG. That also raises the possibility that White, once he finishes his mission, could explore other options.

Given how 2012 turned out, one can hardly blame Williams for stocking up at what is the most important position in the Tar Heel offense. Injuries at the PG slot basically did UNC's Final Four hopes in last season. Marshall leaving early left UNC depending on a non-PG in Strickland and a inexperience freshman in Paige. Berry's commitment might be a hedge of sorts against Britt who was highly touted when he committed to UNC has since plummeted to 60th in the most recent RSCI rankings. Whatever the case, UNC is set well into the next 3-4 years with PGs and can turn the attention to other areas of need.
